Google has introduced an exciting new addition to its Gemini platform, enhancing the ways users interact with files in the mobile application. The latest feature enables users to upload and scrutinize documents directly, providing a seamless experience for those looking to harness the power of artificial intelligence. Recently, Google expanded its Gmail capabilities with a Q&A function powered by Gemini, and now, users of the Gemini app can take advantage of this new Upload and Analyse Files tool. This functionality is exclusively available to paid subscribers of the app.
The Gemini app’s Upload and Analyse Files feature is presently in the deployment phase for a chosen group of users. Individuals using personal Google accounts will need a subscription to Gemini Advanced, while those utilizing school or business accounts must subscribe to either Gemini Enterprise, Gemini Business, or Gemini Education to access this feature.
This innovative feature allows users to submit documents for analysis. After uploading, the AI interprets the data and can answer questions regarding it. For example, users might submit lengthy research documents and request a summary of the methodology or findings presented.
According to Google, this functionality accommodates a variety of file formats, including TXT, DOC, DOCX, PDF, RTF, DOT, DOTX, and HWP among others. It also supports documents made in Google Docs, as well as tabular and spreadsheet files. Up to 10 files can be uploaded simultaneously, with each file having a maximum size of 100MB.
Additionally, users can access the feature through both the web interface and the Android application. When dealing with spreadsheet files, users have the option to ask Gemini to generate tailored charts based on the provided data.
To start using this feature, users should navigate to the Gemini app or web platform and select the Add files option located at the bottom of the text box. They can either upload directly from their device or choose to upload from Google Drive. For successful uploads from Google Drive, users must ensure that the necessary extension is enabled first.
