One of the biggest streaming services in the world, YouTube, has recently ended the tests of its new feature. It allows 4K resolution to become a premium-level feature available for users. Users don’t need to have Premium accounts to be able to enjoy the 4K quality.
The experiment that allowed Premium account owners to see the videos in 4K quality was stopped recently. You don’t have to pay $11.99 per month to be able to see the streams in great resolution. The official Twitter account of YouTube says that everyone can now check out new possibilities.
The company has a history of testing fixated on Twitter for this specific feature. They have deleted these tweets, but the modern world is familiar with screenshots and backups and can easily recall the number of messages about the users who received the opportunity to test 4K resolution. Some of them were part of Premium membership, while others were non premiums.
The news about high-resolution quality available only for paid members provoked a wave of discussion. Many users were arguing that it is unfair to reveal a better picture to those who pay since there are still too many ads on YouTube that free of charge members have to watch. Others claimed that it is only fair to have some additional services with the extra quality available for those who pay for YouTube, helping the company to survive. YouTube decided to stop the experiment with the selected part of users who could watch videos in 4K and open it to everyone. It came right after meaning tweets that the company forces to sign for membership. It is still unclear whether unsatisfied users forced the company to change its mind.
